For What Reasons Should Refuges be Accepted Into Dcs?

Should refuges be accepted into Developing Countries or not? And if yes, then for what reasons?

According to Wikipedia, “a refugee is a person who, owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted on account of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of their nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail him/herself of the protection of that country.”

In my opinion, refugees should be accepted into developed countries. There are several reason for this. Firstly, refugees are people coming from less developed countries, with poor living conditions and very low incomes. They have a fear of returning to their countries and they need protection. Countries like Canada and the United States need to help these groups of people as it would be wrong to not do so. In keeping with their humanitarian tradition and international obligations, developed nations should help out these refugees.

Secondly, refugees can help the economy. They work for cheaper, and can save the costs of a company. In addition to that, refugees add to the Gross Domestic Product of a country. More labour means more production and thus, help the economy. All these factors may even lead to a better standard of living for the people within that nation. So with refugees as labour, developed countries can gain several benefits.

Thirdly, refugees can help countries with under-population. The foremost example in this case is Canada. Refugees helped solved the problem of under-population. This may help develop a rural area, and add to the society and environment of the region.

However, refugees are not always helpful to a country. They are often considered as security threats and are not trusted by locals. Also, they add to the economy, but in a way, they take a lot from the economy as well. Take for example: employment. They do work for cheaper and thus take away the jobs of the local population. Refugees also raise many other complex issues such as human rights violations, child labour, mental and physical trauma/torture, violence-related trauma, and sexual exploitation, especially of children.

Therefore, it is a controversial decision for developed nations, whether to accept refugees or not. In my opinion, they should, with restrictions so as to maintain order within their nation.
