Free Things for Charity

Have you ever noticed when you give to come charities you get something back like a teddy bear or T-shirt? Does that not defeat the purpose of donating?

    Hi Routledge,

I am right there with you, I have often wondered the same thing myself, why would a charity send me a gift for giving a donation!

You expressed it well, glad to know someone else feels the same.

Good points, I think about those things too. Sometimes though the gift you receive has been donated to the merchant, so it doesn’t cost them anything, or if it did, they can write it off as a charitable donation. But seriously, it makes you wonder. What really got me going the other night was when the American baseball World Series (Phillies) MVP winner was given a nice new Chevy. Chevrolet is going out of business and they give away a free car…to a millionaire? God help us. I have an article in the works on this one.

I’m also not fond of getting something when donating to a charity. I have always thought that they do that as an enticement to get more folks to donate. Some people really do want that teddy bear or t-shirt.
