One can donate through charitable organizations that are recognized but one can also give to other groups which are not on your accredited list as accepted organizations. There you might not receive that tax credit but at least you may know your money is going to some relief relief organization. Here are some thoughts on what people can do when faced with a huge catastrophe as this.

1) Give to a reputable organization, one that proves they actually get out to the area to bring relief and help the disaster victims.

2) Giving to organizations is not the only solution one can actually travel there as a volunteer and help assist in the relief effort.

3) One can write to your local politician to see that donations are being giving through your elected district or through the political offices of that district.

4) You can contact community organizations which can collect such things as clothing, food and medicine that can be sent abroad to the afflicted country.

 5) You can sign petition sites and express your opinions so as to wake people up concerning the need to further the cause. The more time one takes to react the more chances that disease and famine will spread.

6) One can do all of the above mentioned things or a few of them.

7) Companies that have a vested interested in the development of the country should take an active approach at rescuing their personnel who are either trapped in the rubble or are missing.

Canadian citizens should make sure that their government is not just talking about helping out, talk is cheap.

9) One can help by putting your egos aside, by being as generous as you can, and by not mixing politics in the issue and saying you are more generous than another person of another political party or faith.

10) Give assurances to the Haitian diaspora that you are helping and that recovery is underway. Many Haitian Canadians are worried about their loved ones and can appreciate that thought.

11) For those that believe prayer can help, do so but it is not enough in itself. Helping requires real action.

12) Montreal wants to send police staff to help curb the vigilantes thwarting relief efforts. Americans should speak to their congressmen to unblock the US control over the international relief effort because this force cannot reach Haiti without American permission!Time is of the essence.
