Local Cbnre Planning for The Retreat

In our previous article we discussed CBNRE as it related to Chemical threats. In our discussion today I would like to relate some further information on how to develop a plan of action for local incidents. Now that you have some idea as to what a CRBNE incident is you can plan accordingly for such events.

In our previous article we discussed CBNRE as it related to Chemical threats. In our discussion today I would like to relate some further information on how to develop a plan of action for local incidents. Now that you have some idea as to what a CRBNE incident is you can plan accordingly for such events.

Usually a localized incident will immediately be attended to by a first responder. In our case as a manager of a survival retreat that first responder will be either yourself or a trained and designated individual of your choosing. Initially, the first responder may not know the type or the extent of the incident. Sometimes specialized vehicles will be dispatched by the government to those locations however we as a survivalist group will likely not be afforded that luxury.

Without knowing the extent of your medical facilities at your retreat it is hard to adjust a scenario to your location. However, suppose you have accumulated an x-ray machine for use in your medical room or building. If an explosion were to occur there, you would find that there is a possible radiation hazard at that time. This radioactive material contained in X-ray machines frequently contains amounts of Cesium-137 or Cobalt-60 both of which are highly radioactive. You would be wise to consider a small make-shift decontamination center somewhere on your property. It would not have to be very elaborate as it could consist of nothing more then an outdoor shower where a person could wash off and a supply of plastic bags in a trash barrel to hold their contaminated clothing. Nothing fancy but it will work.

Most cities in the nation today have a means to recover from just about all types of emergency incidents and our retreats should be setup on a similar basis. If necessary seek out the emergency plans which exist for your nearby cities or those that have been previously created by your state. Review these plans carefully and use your imagination to create a low cost miniature version for your retreat. Consider and document various scenarios from floods relating to overflowed rivers to landslides associated with nearby mountain tops. Try to cover as many potential problems as you can. This is why the local plans are so important when providing a basis for your emergency actions development. These people who created those plans for your city and state are very well versed in what hazards are likely to occur in your location. Take advantage of their knowledge and obtain a copy of these documentation.

An interesting note here on expanding your knowledge base is that the city usually has most of the high cost assets needed in responding to the various incidents however it is frequently the private sector which completes the recovery process in the majority of cases. These private agencies are organizations such as the Red Cross or other non-profits. You should try to tap their knowledge as well in what their plans are during emergencies. Keep in mind that agencies such as the Red Cross operate only upon donations and as such they are thrifty in their operations. This trait would fit in perfectly with the survivalist and his retreat plans.

Education is the key to surviving any sort of disaster and I can only recommend that you learn all that is available to you. The rest will be up to you and you alone.
