Real People Doing Real Good

This is a Group where I live I wanted to say thank you to. It’s just that thank you is not enough.

With the economy bouncing around like a rubber ball being thrown in to an open field, theres no way of knowing where our money may end up. There’s not a lot that families can count on. I would like to bring into the light a group that has been around since before there was any economy drama. They are the “Helping Hands Ministry.” Don’t let the name fool you. These pleasant and loving people do not judge, they do not force any form of beliefs or religion on you. They do not look down their noises at you. Instead, they hold out their hands. These kind people know that everyone goes through rough patches in life. From this simple act of love, they have become more then a great help to our community.

Helping Hands is a faith based non-profit organization in Belton Texas. Mike Bergman the director and Kim Pointer the assistant director spend their time with volunteers assisting low income families and the elderly to meet their needs. Helping hands is best known for their work in weekly grocery assistance, but they offer more programs such as the Apple Tree. The Apple Tree program helps individuals with such things as clothes, shoes, school supplies, a back pack, personal hygiene products and even hair cuts! This is just the tip of the ice berg.

I, like many Americans, have been down on my luck but Helping Hands has been my light house in the storm of life. I am the mother of four and any one who has children or even grandchildren know that often enough there are not enough funds for all life’s necessities. Fortunately, in my time of need I was lucky enough to have the availability   of the Helping Hands Ministry. Never, in any of the times I have I been there have I seen a narrowed eye, a lowered brow or a frown. There is so much that these great people do for our community that thank you just doesn’t seem like it would be enough.

I have witnessed first hand Helping Hands Ministry going above and beyond their calling in helping individuals. I want to put in a word for them. They take donations such as clothes, food donations, personal hygiene products and household goods. Please remember this is for a family. They could always use another smiling face to help out and volunteer. I am asking as one who has benefited, that we come together as a community.  Let’s help them help others. Let’s say “I love you”, like they do.

Helping Hands Ministry does so much for those in the community and those in need. These people are a shining example of what greatness is in my mind. If I were ever asked “Who are my heroes?” I would proudly say “I don’t have a single one, I have many. You can meet them all anytime you’d like.” Simply visit the Helping Hands Ministry at 2210 Holland Rd in Belton, Texas or visit http://www.helpinghandsbelton.org/hh-community for more information.
