Top Six Reasons You Should Volunteer for Your Favorite Charity
Despite what the jaded youth of our generation would lead you to believe, one person truly can make a difference.
They Need Money
The main reason just about every charity is short on funds is not enough people give enough money. You don’t have to come up with thousands of dollars to help; you’d be surprised by how much of a difference can be made with a small amount of money. Especially if you use that money to begin a fund-raising effort and get others involved.
If You Don’t, Who Will
Everyone has an excuse for why they haven’t done more. The rich don’t have time, and the poor don’t think their contribution would be enough, so why don’t the people with all the money take care of it? This is one of those times where a simple decision to just do it can make all the difference. In fact, regardless of your situation, you could volunteer for an already existing fund-raising effort or charity and do more than most of your peers.
Self-Satisfaction
Although this shouldn’t be your primary goal, it never hurts. If you’re one of those people who are asking “what’s in it for me?” then you should be considering how good it feels to help those in need. I fall into this group, I’m afraid. But I am willing to admit it.
Contribution to your Community
Whether recognized or not, you are doing more than most people to help maintain and build upon your community. Whether that be your local community, your nation, or your world, you are helping. It is a small satisfaction to finish the day knowing that what you’ve done has changed the world. Try to consider the big picture. The Butterfly Effect was more than just a movie.
One Person Can Start an Avalanche
If your friends and family see you making a difference they may want to get involved. The people you speak to about your cause may turn their abstract interest into a decision to do something themselves. By making the decision to make a difference, the biggest effect you will have is inspiring others. Even if they take up an unrelated cause, you have just done more to help than you could ever know.
And last, but not least,
Fun
You will have it. You will meet great people with a passion for a similar cause. You will get out more. It will become a lasting hobby for you to enjoy for years to come.

These are good points. I’m not active in charity financially, but I do do a little bit of volunteer work.

Love it. My class always does a service project, every semester. Sometimes its hard to get going, but once they start, most are into it, whatever it is that they chose to do. Good article.
