Volunteering

            You’ve probably volunteered before; you know, doing some work for free. If you have, try to remember the feeling you got after. Hopefully it felt good, right? You did a good deed and helped the world. So it takes a bit of our own time, but in the end it does you some good. You get thanked and you just know you made someones life a little bit better. It’s actually very empowering and does wonders for you self esteem.

            Even if you haven’t volunteered before, consider giving it a try. It doesn’t do you any harm to miss out on watching a bit of TV, does it? Another bonus is that in volunteering you can meet loads of new people and make tons of friends. Together you can help make the world a better place! Yeah, I know it sounds a little corny but it is actually true.

            I’ve decided to do some volunteer work for a theatre. I’m not acting or anything, just taking tickets, holding doors, and directing people to their seats. Why? Because I have some free time and they needed help. I’ve always loved plays and I said sure, why not. There was no particularly important reason and I guess some wouldn’t consider it as noble as volunteering in a food drive for example, but I’m still helping out. You might also be interested in knowing that they offered me a job because they loved me and I was doing such a great job. They have also now been added to my list of top references because I know they’ll put in a great word for me. Volunteering has its benefits.

            In conclusion; try volunteering! It help with confidence issues, gets you some new friends, references, maybe even a new job. And, of course, it helps others… a lot. So get out there and contribute to society!
