It is amazing how World Vision is affecting lives of so many families devastated by the recent “Super-Typhoon” Megi in parts of Asia as it is rushing emergency supplies to affected children and families.

In a statement by World Vision Philippines National Director, Ms Elnora Avarientos

published on its website (www.worldvision.org) she said that in the Philippines alone, more than 600,000 people have been impacted by the storm, and 80,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed.

Serious Flooding also hit Thailand and Laos

“Serious flooding has also hit Thailand and Laos. Your help is needed now. Megi has caused widespread destruction in an area where many people live in flimsy homes. Large swaths of rice paddy fields have been destroyed just before the harvest was due in,” Avarientos noted.

She noted that this combination of household damage and looming food insecurity could have a lasting impact adding that two teams have been dispatched to assess the damage and begin relief operations on the ground.

“Our emergency responders hope to reach more than 152,000 people with food, emergency shelter, and other critical items in some of the hardest-hit areas. Your prayers and your support are crucial right now,” she noted.

She continued: “It is only with help from partners like you that we are able to meet the urgent needs of children and families affected by Typhoon Megi in the Philippines, and those recovering from heavy flooding across Asia. Thank you for your faithful support in times of need.”

Avarientos said that more than 600,000 people in the Philippines have been impacted by Typhoon Megi, which left a trail of destruction to homes and crops in its wake. “World Vision is on the ground assessing the damage and delivering emergency food, shelter, and other critical supplies to meet the most urgent needs of those affected.”

In The Wake of a Crisis

“In the wake of a crisis, it is children who suffer most. World Vision stands ready to protect them by delivering crucial assistance within 24 to 72 hours of a disaster. Your gift to World Vision’s Disaster Response Fund will help us prepare for and respond to disasters around the world,” she stated.

She stated that World Vision’s thousands of staff, spread across nearly 100 countries, are committed to helping children and families rebuild their lives and communities after a disaster.

“In addition to our immediate response to Typhoon Megi, World Vision is hard at work responding to other emergencies like the disastrous flooding in Pakistan and China, the devastating earthquake in Haiti, the food crisis in Niger and the humanitarian crisis in Sudan,” she further said.

World Vision Urgently Needs the Support of Everyone

Avarientos noted that World Vision urgently needs the support of everyone in order to help keep helping children and families suffering from disasters around the world. “Your donation of any size will help us rush life-saving emergency supplies like food, water, blankets, and shelter to those who need it most.”

She continued: “We are often one of the first organizations to begin relief work after a disaster, and we remain on the ground for the long haul, rebuilding communities and restoring hope.”
