Allegory of The Cave Summary

A summary of Socrates’ Allegory of the Cave from the book The Republic.

The allegory of the cave is an excerpt that is designed to school one to open up to the truth. The truth is a complex concept but usually involves one knowing the reality of the world. The allegory of the cave supports Plato’s main thesis in The republic. That is it supports the rule of philosopher kings because of they being the best suited due to their desire not to rule and their ability, if they act in their correct role, to teach the truth. This excerpt is a complex piece that tells that uses an invented discussion of Socrates to support Plato’s beliefs on truth and government.
