An Exemplar of Friendship and Loyalty
The benign characteristics of dogs are noteworthy. There is no doubt that such attributes are genetic, such as friendship and loyalty toward their owners, at all times.
A dog’s life is one of contentment. It’s instincts revolve around a center of friendship and loyalty that can be qualified as being unparalleled. Domesticated and well-trained dogs do not retaliate even when they are maltreated by owners. When this happens they try to cling closer to their owners, appearing sympathetically puzzled, as to say, “why is it that you don’t like me?” A dog senses when its owner appears sad, depressed, or mournful, and in turn, either sits or crouches by his or her side or stands up on its hind legs, and sets its paws on its’s owners lap, by way of implied condolence or consolation.
When ignored, by its owner, a dog may not immediately move away, but rather tries again to demonstrate its loyalty. It seems to have a sense of reconciliation – a trait from which humans can learn to acquire, under certain circumstances. They bark even behind closed doors when they hear footsteps outside. This is not intended as an act of aggression, but, rather, an inborn characteristic of alertness when it senses any intrusion. Humans can learn from such a characteristic by being defensive and cautious of burglars, and home invasions.
There is neither greed nor malice on the part of a well-trained and house-broken canine, nor any intent to do harm. Other than its territorial instincts, it does not generally bark unnecessarily, unless it is for a purpose. It is said that they possess a sixth sense that is triggered before anything undesirable happens, such as an earthquake.
It has been estimated that there are about twenty-two millions dogs in the United States alone. This means that just about every other family owns a dog. There are more than two hundred breeds. Regardless of breed, all dogs have certain common characteristics. Dogs are able to hear many sounds that humans cannot hear and their sense of smell is even better than their sense of hearing, though their eyesight is not usually good. A dog cannot distinguish one color from another The world appears black, white or gray to them. There are no pores in a dog’s skin by which it can perspire as a human being can do so. When the weather is hot, a dog pants, and when it pants its tongue perspires which enables it to cool off.
The mother of a dog carries its young for a period of sixty two days and gives birth to several litters at a time. Dogs are used to save lives and those that guide the blind are called “seeing eye dogs.” No animal in the world does more for humans than dogs. It seems as if man and dog are predestined to relate to each other.
