And Suddenly It’s Simple

Tired of your search for The Truth? You’re not alone. But maybe it’s right under your nose. Right were “you” “is”. Be still, and know.

My God, the confusion that’s blown me hither and yon for several decades, now, regarding matters of spirituality, God, and the like!

You too?

I’m getting old. And tired.

There was a time when I thought The Secret was such in the sense of complexity, as though hidden in a tricky or trippy pattern, as in those computer generated patterns, where you can’t see the picture unless you defocus your eyes just right.

I spent much time seeking out difficult to obtain texts. “Mystical” kind of stuff. Gurdjieff and Ouspensky (and various disciples thereof) come to mind. Later, the questionably legitimate “Seth Speaks” material (not sure why that was so exciting at the time, but it was). Some Timothy Leary. John Lilly. Crowley. Robert Anton Wilson (who was so much fun). Douglas Harding. Wei Wu Wei. Sri Ramana Maharshi.

Of course Jesus was in there somewhere, there being no denying the powerful simplicity of the likes of The Sermon on the Mount.

Ooops – almost forgot various flashes in various pans like Wilhelm Reich, Schopenhauer, “Napkin Notes on the Art of Living”, “The Inner Game of Tennis”, “The Lankavatara Sutra”, “The Upanishads”. Tons of other eastern-ish stuff whose titles and authors I’ve thankfully long ago forgotten.

It’s not that it wasn’t useful along the way. There are always dues to pay, practice to make ready for perfection, etc., etc.

But tonight it all became rather simple. Or simple to say, anyway.

It’s just being honest about is-ness.

Which – going back to that stuff about dues and practice – I suppose isn’t simple at all when in the throes of the habit of trusting lies – or disinformation, at a bare minimum – about is-ness. Or reality. Or whatever you want to call it.

Of course, it’s not necessarily “ongoingly” simple. It’s danged easy to forget in the wink of an eye, the flash of a skirt, the twinkle of profit through means other than labor. Or whatever it is you happen to be personally susceptible to en route to forgetting the reality of is-ness. I don’t know, maybe shoes? Purses? Free beer?

Just seeing is-ness as it is. Not as it’s described. Not the map. The honest to goodness territory.

Leave all concept, everything you think you know, behind. Look and see. Resist describing it, or without realizing it you’ll be back to clinging to and cherishing ersatz description, until the next time you remember how simple it is.

Which could be a while, you dues-payer, you.
