Deduction and Induction
Difference between Deduction and Induction.
1- Deduction goes from general laws to particular facts and Induction goes from particular facts to general laws.
2- The aim of Deduction is the form of an argument that is how an argument is formed because deduction demands that, thought should agree with itself, on the other hand the aim of Induction is to see whether our argument tallies with the actual world or not, because induction demands that thought should agree with actual reality.
3- Deduction employs the methods of synthesis where as Induction employs the method of analysis. Deduction is concerned with synthesis and it means putting the premises together and then drawing a conclusion from them. On the contrast Induction has to discover the causal connection among facts for which analysis is necessary.
4- Deduction is based on the laws of thought while Induction is based on the law of nature.
5- Validity is the attribute of deductive argument while probability is the attribute of Inductive arguments. The Deductive arguments either valid or invalid while Inductive argument may be more or less probable.
