-       Parents cannot create the idea of god in him.

·      Still can’t explain the idea of god in him.

1 conclusion:

God created him and put the idea of god in his mind.

·      Craftsman will put his mark.

Meditation 4

Idea of god is completely perfect

·      God cannot be a deceiver,

·      If god deceived then he cannot be absolutely perfect.

Looks at his senses:

·      If god made me, that mean god made 5 senses, which means senses are generally realiable.

Why error occur?

·      Because we make mistakes.

Theory of Error

·      God gave me free will, but also limited understanding.

-       2 combined things can give error.

·      Freedom of will can direct us to something is true when we haven’t understand enough about it.

Meditation 5-

3rd proof of god existence

Ontological

Uses introspection, examine more closely the idea of god

·      Notices many features of the idea of god, things that are essential for god.

Ex. Essential feature of train, all 3 of inner angles add up to 120 degrees.

Idea of God necessary exist, cannot not exist.

·      Perceives it clearly and distinctly, therefore god exists.

Whatever we clearly and distinctly perceive is true then it is true, god gave us this faculty therefore it cannot be deceived.

Meditation 6-

Now we know our self better, and the author of our being

·      Open door to empiricism

Can have empirical science.

If we do not see something as clearly and distinctly true then we should not believe.

Physical things cause of sense impression

·      But we must always make reason, must understand whether our senses are giving us legitimate senses.

Theory of mind- mind body dualism

·      Mind is indivisible, one mind does everything.

·      Body is divisible.

·      Conclude, mind and body 2 different things, in human being they are intrincally connected.

·      Existence of mind does not depend on the body.

·      When body dies, mind leaves.

·      Animals are machines, automata.

Descartes proofs of existence-

Number philosophers believe Descartes knew they were bad arguments but still went on with it.

·      Church bans his writing.

-       Because he takes doubt seriously, it is a sin.

Mind body dualism:

Mind is product of brain.

Introspection

·       If you cannot find the cause of something inside the mind it does not exist

·      Introspection only gives us the tip of the iceberg not the whole thing.

·      Animals are total blank, don’t feel pain.
