Desires and Wants

Desires and wants are necessary for survival and growth, satisfaction and contentment are necessary for happiness and peace.

Desires and wants are the opposite of satisfaction and contentment. While desires and wants are necessary for survival and growth, satisfaction and contentment are necessary for happiness and peace. Happiness follows attainment of desire, but the most important key is to have the right desires. And this is where we need to strike a balance.

Life is all about perceptions, and whenever you fail to see is not there for you. When you fail to perceive goodness or virtue in someone or something it cannot make you happy. You live what you feel, and you feel what you perceive, and, mind you, you perceive what you have in you. You see the world through your mind’s eye, through your very own filters. As the saying goes, you see in others what you have in you. If you perceive someone to be bad can you really have positive thoughts about him? Or, if you perceive everyone to be bad can you be good yourself? Be honest, you cannot deceive yourself, you know. There are a lot of nice things and nice people in this world, make sure you find them. If you look for positive things in life you will find them. And if you do not find them, stop and see what the matter is.

We live what we think and feel, and we feel what we interpret and perceive. If we fail to see the beauty of a beautiful garden or the care of a caring spouse then these qualities can have no meaning for us. What we do not see is as good as not being there for u at all. We  may have all that life can offer but if we do not recognise or acknowledge it, it becomes non-existent for us.

All of us perceive any given situation in our way and it has a very different and individual impact on us. No two individuals assign identical meaning to any event. We perceive everything through our very own filters that are a by-product of our learning experiences in our infancy and early childhood. If we have grown up amongst people who were violent, hostile and quarrelsome, then we are likely to interpret this world and people around us also be hostile and bad. We may feel threatened by everyone and feel the need to fight back. While, on the other hand,if we were fortunate to have been brought up by the people who were loving, caring and understanding, in a situation like this we are likely to feel comfortable with people and are also likely to find this world a beautiful place to live in.
