Extrasensory Perception – New Age Cult or Mind Over Machine?

There is a constant conflict between the scientists and the spiritualists for the last few decades over extrasensory perception ability of human brain. Scientists and spiritualists are at logger-heads over this issue as researchers have been trying hard to find out some definite logic behind this unnatural talent and the spiritualists have already cited reference from various spiritual scriptures which justify such happenings as ethereal power. Researchers, psychologists, parapsychologists and even physicists are performing different tests and experiments to reach the bottom line.

Spiritualists consider it a celestial power present in few holy mediators via whom the mortal souls can connect with spirits or other unworldly souls. Like they perceive creative visualization as reincarnation or re-born of a human being. But researchers leave no stone unturned to dig out the original reason behind such transcendental behaviors. Few days ago, such kind of activities or behaviors was termed as ‘paranormal’ activities. But tagging it as paranormal means you are already accepting as something unnatural, behind the reach of modern science. Here comes the term ‘parapsychology’. The researches going on in different universities under the supervision of world renowned scientists focus on psychokinesis, telekinesis, dream telepathy etc. – subparts of extrasensory perception. These researches are considered as mind over matter researches as these are performed to prove that a human mind can influence the performance of a machine. 

Take the example of the random event generator or REG experiment performed by the PEAR lab at Princeton University. This research was conducted among some volunteers who are commoners without any experience of extrasensory perception or ESP. These people were placed in different rooms of an apartment without any electrode interconnection. An electronic coin flipper was set and it has been observed that the whole thing did not influence the performance of the machine. Another two volunteers who share a personal connection were being seated in a same room. It resulted in a more effective result in changing the course of the coin flipper. It has prompted the researchers to conclude that if there is a resonance between two conscious human minds, it creates a same wavelength which in turn decreases the entropy to some extent. This mind over matter experiment has inspired the related psychologists and researchers in this particular field with new rays of hope.

New age gurus though strongly believe that such kind of ESP or creative visualization arises from spiritual power. The power of prayer is also regarded as influential in arousing the sublime consciousness of a normal human being. More meditation and contemplation gradually awaken the human consciousness and opens up the hidden treasures of spirituality. After much practices, a human being becomes capable of tapping his/her own hidden power and plugs into the ethereal world by using this mystic power. Thus, a human being can see the incidents of his/her past life (read creative visualization) or can foresee the future.

Be it science or spirituality, the power of human brain in transcending earthly barriers goes beyond doubt.
