Fate or Free Will?

Fate or Free Will essay.

I believe in free will, were you get to choose your own future.  I believe that the action you choose to make will determine your future.  I do not believe in fate.

If you life was predestined, what would be the point of life?  You would have no control over your life.  But then again, who knows?  If life was based on free will, then you would still not know, because you can only do something at the same time once, and therefore you would not know the difference.

Today, my friend and I found an expensive iPod on a table.  There was no definite sign of who it could have belonged to.  So, we could have stolen it, sold it, smashed it, or given it to a teacher.  We chose to return it.  If life was based on free will, and we decided to steal it, then our decision would lead to an unknown future, where we could have gotten in trouble for stealing.  If we chose to give it to the owner, then it may lead to another future, where we could have received gratitude.  But there is no way to tell, because there is only one time, one choice, one future.  Suppose life was based on fate, then fate would make us steal the iPod or return it.  We would have a predetermined future.  But how do you know if your life is predetermined or determined by yourself?  You can’t.

You cannot find out if life is predetermined or you choose it.  It is impossible.  I only believe in free will because, what is the point of a life that you have no control over, a life where you are helpless in?  God gave us a life, where we could choose to do right or wrong, and if life was fate, what was the point of rules, of commandments, of laws and codes?
