Is Man a Spiritual Being or Just a Bundle of Flesh?
The Greek conception of man is reflected in their ancient philosophers’ teachings or doctrines. Most of them portray man as a composite of two absolutely separate essences: body and soul. But then man is the soul. The soul is merely using the body.
For some people man is entirely material, there is nothing in man that is spiritual hence nothing survives after his physical death. For people of this materialistic conviction, there is no spiritual dimension to man. Hence Feuerbach (1969) says that, “Man is what he eats”. Once he is dead that is all for him.
