Is Scientific Development a Desirable Aim?

A philosophic essay about scientific work as a human aim. Based on Horkhaimer philosopher way of thinking.

By current days there is wide scientific and technological development all over the world, and there’s more yet to come. A great consideration and reliability has been assigned to all that having science as its basis, getting to the point that science is considered humankind’s greatest aim. However, ¿Is scientific development what actually will bring well being and peace to us? ¿Is it actually the method to enhance our quality of life? Otherwise, ¿Has it brought up more disadvantages rather than benefits?

The question itself is subjective altogether, but if regarded in the most strict sense, we can conclude that science has lost its essence, its core, its substance, its initial aim which was being the means rather than the aim. So has mankind lost a major part of its essence, since it has “dehumanised” itself, trying to be as systematic and automatically-conduced as the method it has created, subordinating its feelings and setting aside its nature. Human being has built up a society that is against human pure basic traits, it has placed itself as the means, and the science as the aim.

Interpersonal relationships are in all senseless; people treat each other just as to other object. Their behaviour has made them to lose their individuality, becoming into tantamount and lacking of any personality units of the heterogeneous massive system they, themselves have created and established as their code of conduct. They have institutionalised even the way they have to behave ! even the way they have to think in !

Over this process many things have indeed been lost, since even the most fundamental human virtues have been institutionalised. Furthermore, such a sacrifice is not worth it enough, in the sense that although knowing the reason of countless events, the authenticity of everything is still doubted. Veracity is now out of reach. There’s not security that any shared veracity is desirable at least. People have fallen into radical scepticism. Moreover, no person trusts each other. They are afraid of themselves, and fear what the future will be like.

All, without exception, concerning to science, culture, thoughts, ideals, wishes, desires, reason, experience and everything else , come in the stream of institutions, and people is still happily living on someone else’s spirit, there is no essence of anything at all.
