Perseverance: Where Do We Belong?

We go through similar experiences growing up and and having to face the real world.

What does it mean to belong? Dictionary definitions: to have the proper qualifications, to be properly or appropriately placed, to be accepted as a part of something.

That’s what everyone in the world is constantly searching for – Acceptance.

It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from or what you believe in. If you feel like you don’t belong, it makes everything else even harder to handle.

We all experience to some degree or another, relatively the same experiences as we travel through life. We’re born, raised (if we’re very fortunate by an unconditionally loving family), attend grade school, become a grade 8 graduate, then attend high school, where we begin to discover who we are, and where we belong in this spinning world.

By the time you finish high school, you generally know who you are. Or at least you think you know. The number of options available to us today are immense. It’s often difficult to pin point exactly what you want to do with the rest of life. This is one of the big questions posed to us in high school.

Do you want to attend College or University? What program do you want to focus your education on? In other words, what do you want to be when you get out in the real world and have to earn a living?

This is the ultimate question. How on earth is an 18 yr old supposed to answer that?

Working diligently, focusing on who you are and what you enjoy, that’s the answer.

Often we are interested in many things all at the same time, the trick is to figure out what you enjoy doing, and get into it with an open mind.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Many possibilities and options present themselves to us every day, in many different ways. We need to be aware, and open to change. Something you don’t like doing today, may very well lead you to something you love working on and never knew you were interested in before.

There is no easy answer. All those celebrities we look up to and admire, didn’t get to where they are by sitting on the side lines and disregarding their dreams.  They dreamt, they made a plan, and worked hard to follow it through. Besides, we never stop learning, ever.  I think most people are good at more things than the world gives them the opportunity to do.

Focus your energy on concentrating on your goals, working hard to achieve them, and surround yourself with people and things that encourage and inspire you. Any dream worth having is a dream worth fighting for.
