Perspectives and the Mysteries of the Human Mind

How perspectives aren’t just techniques used in art, they are things that change a being’s way of thinking.

All creatures living today that we know of have evolved from single cell organisms. Over time these cells joined together, adapted, and evolved to be the living things we observe today. But what allows us to observe? Where does our conscience come from? And do consciences evolve to our surrounding environments? These questions may be for future scientists to answer, but we can still ponder them.

Confusion and curiosity have plagued the human mind ever since our first upright steps. Everything around us seemed so complicated, seemingly impossible to understand, but still extremely intriguing. Why does the Sun shine? Where does lightning come from? Our ignorance of the environment around us caused us to make up Gods and Myths. Often the characters in the myths and the Gods have human-like features. We simply believed we were special. But is our brain really a special piece of nature? We would like to believe so but take it from a different view: an alien view.

His Space Cruiser purred to the ground and landed with a soft thud on the surface of this newly discovered planet. Before landing, the pale blue dot showed signs of liquid. Quickly realizing this tiny planet could host valuable resources the Captain gathered his crew and set out, galaxies whizzing by in the window. The grainy surface on which they landed had waves of blue liquid rather violently crashing into it. The plain of blue stretched a great distance before it consumed the edge of another grainy surface.

The mystifying blue liquid was not the only new thing on this island of the universe: tiny light skinned creatures danced happily nearby. Their medium-sized look-a-likes lie nearby on sheets of fiber and read scripts, paying no attention to the fact that their little ones were toying with the blue liquid. As the Captain walked, inspecting the rich abundance of vegetation, the ground began to rumble. For a brief moment the shaking continued and the waves of blue liquid grew slightly. After the rumbling storm the creatures seemed startled but only minorly. The crew decided this planet was too unstable to colonize at this time. Before leaving the crew placed a beacon and gathered some surface samples. The Captain and his crew took a last look of the new world and took off.

The main focus for this scenario was to show that minds evolve and adapt to their surrounding environment. The humans in this story were use to the beach and they knew earthquakes happen from time-to-time. On the other hand, the aliens were not used to these things, even though they were highly intelligent and brilliant when it came to technology.

This story, in some ways, could be compared to the Vietnam War. The Americans, although far more advanced, could not defeat the North Vietnamese Army because the Vietnamese were so accustomed to their environment. It is part of evolution to adapt to the surrounding environment and, in the process become used to it.

The universe is so vast you can confidently be positive we are not alone. The human imagination seems to be as big as the universe itself. We do not know what other life forms may look like but if you spend some time thinking about it who knows you could be right. As I said before, future scientists may be the ones to answer the questions but we can still ponder them.
