Philanthropy and Solidarity: Aptitudes to Progress

Two of the greatest virtues that will help each and every one of us to reach the so-called “progress”.

People in their own unique way are conscious about how they will be productive in their family, school and society as a family member, student/pupil and citizen as well. Each of us wants to pursue a progressive circumstance in our mere future. But, in what ways can we assure a life of prosperity towards our journey to progress? The ways are simple. These ways are something as inherent because it is naturally being shown by people who are eager to reach progress in their lives. The ways are: (1) to be in union with other people who have an interest which is common between you and them and; (2) to practice a generous way of living that is benevolent enough towards one’s fellowmen.

First of all, let us scrutinize well what is this generosity and benevolence that has something to do with progress. Philanthropy is a voluntary promotion of human welfare. It involves the donation or granting of financial sources to various worthy charitable causes. It’s seen as a way to directly affect change in society without recourse to the bureaucratic mechanisms of government. Someone who practices philanthropy is known as a philanthropist. In different ways, philanthropy can be defined. The origin of the word “philanthropy’ is from Greek and means love for mankind. Nowadays, philanthropy includes the concept of giving wholeheartedly by an individual to promote the common good. It is something a progress of performing benevolent actions with no expectation of acknowledgement or reward. Whatever is the sense of philanthropy, it’s always an incalculable factor that can promote progress.

Another factor that’s remarkable to the attainment of progress is solidarity. Solidarity is a feeling or condition of unity based on common goals, interests and sympathies among a group e.g. people. It’s considered as the X- factor to achieve gradual improvement, growth and development. With solidarity existing to each individual, the act of moving forward towards a goal is possible and can be easily circulated. To have solidarity is likely to have the ace to fulfill the prosperity that we’re longing for.

How can we say that philanthropy is a contributor to “progress”? In what way can we inevitably prove that philanthropy has something to do with our goal to reach progress? To be generous to one another will help us to make our beings feel a progress in their lives. To be benevolent to every single member of the society will give assurance to us that our society will reach the point of progress because the citizens are helping each other to promote productive society and if the society is productive nevertheless the citizens are also productive so we can say that if they achieve the point of increased productivity, both the citizens and the society are to be called as progressive ones. So, in order to have a stepping stone onward to progress, one should be a philanthropist in his own way. As Christians, we should learn to practice a philanthropic life that is giving sense to the saying, “the more you give the more you receive”. As to be charitable is one way that we can show the essence of philanthropy. To be benevolent contributor, eleemosynary relief and to give philanthropic contribution especially to the poor and needy, the essence of charity that will lead each of us to the progress that we’re trying to attain which is from the very start is considered as unreachable but with the philanthropy that dominates our aptitudes, it’s now an ongoing hope to progress.
