Rationalism vs. Empiricism
On the source of all knowledge.
In the world today ninety percent of its population believes in some form of god. As far as we know there is no empirical evidence of a god. This is because we are not able to physically experience a god, or in other words interact with a god using our senses. However, some people claim to have seen the manifestation of a god, but most will not go that far concerning their beliefs. The only possible way to conjure up the idea and the belief in a god is through reason and logic. If we only sensed and experienced the world then we would have no inclination to believe in a god. Only through an individual’s reason and logic can the idea of a god be concluded. All in all, if it is a fact that ninety percent of the population believe in a god then we must conclude that ninety percent of the world’s population consists of rationalists.
As you have seen we cannot gain knowledge or justify the truth without proper logic and reasoning. Rene Descartes helped prove this argument by his doubts of reality and of his own existence. Secondly, our senses are constantly deceiving us, forcing us to reason out sensory information to provide us with knowledge and truth. Finally, today’s world of faith and hope is and must be a world of logic and reason, a rational world. But don’t listen to me…think about it.
