Reality is Energy
Most of us think that what we see is more real than every other information provided by our other senses.
When we hear a sound, we are capable of distinguish which type of object is emitting it, but it we don´t see the object we may have been fooled by a recording or a synthesizer.
When we taste or smell something edible, we can be fooled by artificial flavors.
When we touch some surface, we may think we are touching wood, but it may be a plastic fabric precisely made to give us the impression of wood at touch.
When we see something, we also notice information related to the object we are watching: the shadow it projects, the place where it sits on, the size, the distance from us, and so on. Sight give us a lot more information about the world than any other sense we have. So, is not a surprise why we say “seeing is believing”.
Our eyes are only capable of seeing from red thru violet, no more. The wavelenght of the finest light is approximately 350 nanometers, many times grater than the diameter of an atom. This makes atoms invisible with normal light. Even though we see atoms with electronic microscopes, it doesn´t mean that atoms are there. I mean, the fact that light or electrons bounce back to our detectors doesn´t mean that a material has caused it, may be a force repelled electrons (electrical force) and something strange repeled light. The reason why I am discarding a meterial background is because the more the atoms are researched, the more empty they seem to be.
So, close your eyes and try to perceive reallity without the information given by your eyes. Obviously, the sense you will use is the sense of touch. Like when trying to put 2 magnets together with the same pole, a force arises, and when you move one magnet you feel like there is a soft mountain that prevents magnet touching; or when a water strem under a pool, you try to touch the stream but it moves your fingers apart, it refuses to be destroyed by your fingers, like matter does.
So, I think matter is only a flow of energy (I don´t know what kind of flow but a flow), which refuses to be pinched or passed through by light (remember, light passes thru glass because atoms that are hit by light vibrate and emits the same light to other atoms, so the light doesn´t pass thru it). Some support to this could be Einstein’s formula E=mc^2, which states that Energy is proportional to the mass as we know it.
