Saying Sorry, The Hardest Words in The English Language!

It’s not always easy to apologize!

Taking credit for the good things one has done is quite easy.  However, apologizing for things we have done wrong is usually not.  Why is saying sorry so hard?

I think for some people it is hard to admit they made a mistake.  It is much easier to pretend they had nothing to do with it than to admit they were to blame for it.  There is a fear there that many people have of admitting they are not perfect and in fact are actually human.  And some people believe they will let people down if they admit to things.

When one breaks something that does not belong to them admitting they did it isn’t always the first thing on their mind.  Often times they will think of ways to “sweep it under the rug” as hiding it seems like a better option.  Yet, what they do not realize is that hiding things only makes things worse and the person you have accidentally hurt will undoubtably be much more upset when they find out the truth.  In the end, admitting what you have done may seem scary but it is much better than letting it fester.

Children are often the worst at apologizing because they are afraid of what their punishment will be.  Often they will try to hide what has been broken or even point the blame to a sibling or friend.  When my children have done something wrong I usually sit with them and ask them whether or not they did it and remind them that while I may be upset I will not punish them if they are honest with me.  This way they are not afraid of speaking up.

I think saying sorry is very important.  Admitting to what you have done is always better than trying to hide things as the truth always comes out in the end.  Aren’t we all better off being honest after all?

I always say than better than say sorry, it’s even better not having to say it. Thanks for sharing.

Good article. I think you made some very good points in the first paragraph. Some people are full of themselves and they’re not willing to admit that they’ve made a mistake, apologize and let it go. For others, having to say they’re sorry is a sign of weakness. And finally, some people will actually say they’re sorry, but do they really mean it? You hear them say I forgive, but I don’t forget. Personally, this means that you’re still resentful toward the other person. When it no longer affects you, then you can say that you have really forgiven that person.

I did understand where you are coming from. It’s always like that as far as human being is concern. In most cases we would prefer receiving consolation or in sometimes bearing grudges to dropping the common but golden word ‘Sorry’.

I will also go by what Love Doctor did comments that in most cases some may have pronounced the word ‘Sorry’ without meaning that in their mind. Some will only go low because of one favour or the other which they are after.

    Thanks for the wonderful share.
