Selective Memory
Bits and pieces of a mind’s work.
Selective memory is a kind of unfortunate predicament that we all suffer from.
We try to forget the truth we don’t want to remember.
We blind ourselves to the truth we don’t want to see.
We turn a deaf ear to the truth we don’t want to listen.
We intentionally select what we want to know,
and intentionally reject what we don’t want to know.
Why?
Because it is the truth.
And only because that it is the truth that we find it hard to believe.
We don’t have faith.
Because we think that the truth is hard to understand, we fear we could not handle the truth; we are cowardly, so we choose the easy way out.
We choose not to believe; we choose not to know; we choose to look somewhere else; we choose to forget.
However, what we do not know is that,
To conquer our fear/ dislike/ unwillingness towards the truth;
the one and only way is to force yourself to face and tackle your negativity.
“What we fear, we must.”
By throwing away our fears, by facing and accepting the truth with an open heart;
by knowing what is inside our hearts – our real thoughts and intentions,
could we become whole and complete with our real selves, only could we accept ourselves and all happenings.

Without the art of selective memory, many folks would probably have of the traumatic past that selective memory shields away! A very well written article here amilia!

I believe selective memory is the mask worn by fearful people. If you have a relationship with the Lord then fear is nothing and the truth always prevails.

thanks a lot Gaby, Kate & Papaleng =)
Actually we could also look at selective memory at a totally different angle.
For example:
We choose to remember only positive thoughts and the truth; we choose to not forget but instead to accept and let go of our negativity.
Cheers~
