Supporting Role People

Our series on the philosophy of role-playing. Are you a supporting role or a leading role type?

There are leading role types and supporting role types. Most civilizations type people.

Sometimes you find actors in supporting roles, sometimes in leading roles.

Almost all societies type people as supporting role people and leading role people.

In acting, it has nothing to do with the quality of acting. Sometimes the supporting role acting, in acting ability, are greater actors than the leading role actors. Nevertheless, they are typed as supporting actors.

Sometimes actors who have a leading in some movies, have a supporting in others.

Most actors in a George Clooney movie or a Clint Eastwood find themselves, although they are leading role people in their own movies, must become supporting actors when these leading role types are in the movies.

What makes a leading role type and a supporting role type?

How do you know your type?

Sometimes actors who are interested in leading roles go to expert in typecasting and ask if they can reinvent them so that they are leading role types. Sometimes brunettes become blondes and blondes become brunettes, and sometimes find themselves now in leading roles.

Sometimes scriptwriters write scripts for traditionally supporting role people and they find themselves in leading roles and audiences realize that these are truly great actors.

Sometimes actors who are supporting role type in British movies, find themselves leading role types in American movies, and vice versa.

Sometimes leading role actors in French movies find themselves supporting role actors in American movies and vice versa.

Sometimes leading role ethnic actors can be supporting role or leading role actors depending upon the script.

Why are nerds, dorks, and geeks often assigned supporting roles in the material world–or whatever you call it–but leading roles in the intellectual and metaphysical worlds? And sometimes vice versa.
