The Reality of Dreams: Are They More Than Real?

Do you ever wonder why your dreams feel so real? Do you think it’s possible that when we dream, we actually enter an alternative state of consciousness?

Is it possible to view the world apart from our physical bodies? When this happens, then why does it occur when we sleep?

I will give an example of a dream that felt more real than reality. I state this because I had sensed everything in that dream more profoundly than I ever did in the waking world. It was as if all my five senses were heightened during the dream.

I remember taking a nap. While I was sleeping, I saw my body lying down on the bed. At that moment, a weight came upon my body. The force or entity was trying to paralyze me. My body was trying so hard to move, but couldn’t because of the force. It was a tremendous struggle – - as if some force was trying to overtake my body, and I was fighting it. I became frightened! I remember I kept calling out to God, “God, please help me! Please, please help me!”

I quickly found myself awake and felt relief that it was just a dream! On the other hand, I thought for a moment, “It seemed so real and vivid!” Did my soul actually leave my body or was it just a dream that seemed acutely real?

I have had other dreams where I find myself struggling to wake up but couldn’t right away. Although I could see my surroundings, I would endeavor to wake up, only to find myself still in the dream. It seemed like an ongoing battle. Eventually, my effort to embark in the waking world would prevail, but I couldn’t help but wonder – - what does the struggle between the dream world and the waking world mean? Could it be possible that when we sleep, we enter another world of cognizance? Are we able to sense things in our dreams that we don’t pay attention to in the waking world? These are profound questions, and there is absolutely no way to deny that these dreams or happenings have occurred.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Dr. Lin for your comment. I felt that during the dream, an evil entity was trying to overtake me, but when I started to cry out to God for help in the dream, I woke up!

From a scientific perspective, you might want to look up sleep paralysis, everything you describe points to that. But I do know what you mean. I sometimes wake up and while I am floating back up to the surface of consciousness, slipping out of the dream I am having, I get this feeling that I am leaving reality behind. When I wake up, I have a really hard time adjusting to my surroundings that begin to feel so pointless and strange. I go through the rest of my day with this feeling of estrangement slowly wearing off, but until it completely does, I find it very hard to deal with my every day reality.

I have also considered that we slip in to another consciousness in our dreams, but I don’t know much, only what I have personally felt. It would be interesting to do some lit research in to this…

I came across this article after googling: “why does it feel mor real when i dream than when im awake?”. I found a whole bunch of articles but this one stood out because I too had a very similar dream. 2 actually. One was about a week ago, and it was very very similar. I thought it was real at the time, because i had no intentions of falling asleep, but i did. I heard a little girle singing, and when i looked over all i saw was my stone cold poster. Then it became difficult to move. i was very restricted. I also couldnt talk. The other one was just now, more over night. I dreamt that i was falling asleep in my dream, but every time I’d lay down to rest, a figure would appear at the foot of my bed, and attempt to kill me. It would lean over me, hold me down, and try to suffocate me one way or another. When i was awake in the dream i was talking to my family, telling them of the figure in my room, but they wouldnt listen. I eventually woke up. Sigmund Freud believed that dreams were a direct path to the unconscious. That we are the authors of our dreams, and that the meaning of all dreams could be determined through psychoanalysis. Was he right? Or do our dreams link us to some altered level of reality? I believed Freud till i came across this and realized that other people are having similar dreams. Maybe all of our dreams are related. Maybe something is actually trying to harm us while we sleep. Maybe we all have similar lives and therefore, similar dreams, as im sure freud would think. I’d love to discuss this more. If anyone of you wishes to contact me, find a way to give me your email. I wont post mine up here, i get enough junk as it is.

    Hello fellow travellers

I have been to the point where I was all fired up about whats beyond this material 5 senses world , it just wasnt enough for me. I started inducing consciousness in my dreams and that gave me the ability to see with the Eyes That See Things The Way They Are , the eyes of the psyche .

You must be really sure that you want to start this journey. Transcending ordinary reality can **** your world up , thats why most people prefer living theyre lives the way they do , no philosophies needed.

If you dont feel like home here , if you really want to see the way things work , start this journey , you will be on your own , dont expect compassion and sympathy from friends , family , not even your mate . This is strictly an esoteric path to the truth.

Before travelling program yourself not to be afraid , think of thoughts that bring you security and calmness and always think of positive feelings , they will drive you where you want.

Energy reality has much less laws than the physical one , your thoughts are the “matter” there , that means you create your own reality inside of a bubble of creative energy , the love of god .

I hope you find yourself and the Truth that permeates all

    peace and unconditional love

If the fact that your body suffers if you sleep to much was not a concern then I would sleep 24-7. Most of my dreams I can control just by a simple test. I rub my thumb on my finger and if a blue flame comes off it is a dream. I fly mostly and practice some ice skating programs I designed. Sometimes I create a new flower or try to go inside my body to fix what is wrong. I have not fixed nothing yet but I am persistant and it will come hopefully. Nice article.

….does anyone else find it disturbing? we have all realized the same dream. “dream,” may we be connected during these dreams? i was dreaming a couple nights ago. the dream was like any other dream i have, it is real. i was living like a normal life. i would see myself, live in third-person, and in brief moments i would switch to see what i see first person, and it would those times were i’d be able to fully control that me. i forget that i am dreaming. and i live. i am reaching to a conclusion that when i wake up i disconnect from my alternate reality, and connect to this one (distastefully- i like my other reality. because its just soo intriguing) and when i sleep i reconnect. when i dream i have an enormous feeling of connection to everyone, thing…currently i’m starting to question whether this is the dream. to bad i cant put two realities into one……or can i? i too want to talk more about this maybe there’s a group on facebook or something…
