The Utopian Dream

Can there ever be a Utopia?

A perfect place can exist on this Earth. Even though many have tried and all have failed, I believe a Utopian society can function on our planet if the society is crafted in the right way.

My belief in this “mythical” place is a strong one. Ever since I have heard of Karl Marx and his ideals I have become obsessed with them. What Marx imagines is a Utopian society based on pure equality, and equality is the foundation and basis for a Utopian society. He wanted all people, no matter what they do, to have the same income and have everything the same as their neighbors next to them. This in essence would restrict any burglary from happening because it would be suspicious if you have three television sets while everybody else would have only one. While I don’t agree with all of Marx’s ideals, I do with most of them.

From my research I have gathered that for a perfect society to function on this planet, you would need three things. The first would be a pure hearted person to be your elected leader. What I mean by this is a person who has a good sense of universal morals, and who does not impose those morals on the rest of the world. This leader would be a sort of a guide for his citizens. He will hold a lot of power, but the people at any time can overthrow him with a set amount of votes when their demands are not being met. It would be as simple as pushing a button in your living room that will cast a vote about the dissatisfaction of that particular leader. Of course this requires the citizens of a Utopian society to be realistic about their demands.

The second thing you would need would be a heightened sense of law and punishment. If everybody in a society is equal there would be no need for crime, since you would have the exact same wealth as your neighbor and he would have the exact same wealth as his neighbor and so on. In a world dominated by money this is crucial. If a crime were to happen over a relationship or any other dispute, there would be significant consequences and punishment. The punishment would have to be greater than the one faced in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the rest of the western countries because unlike those democratic societies you would be equal. There would be no need for you to steal. Punishment for stealing would be as severe as exile from the society or even worse.
