The Utopian Dream

The final essence you would need for a Utopian society is a sense of community and bondage. If everyone acts out in their own interests the society would fall apart. Citizens of this community must be intelligent and believe in the ideals of their Utopia. They must also all have the same culture, nationality, and language, at least for now. This would prevent clashes and tensions from happening because of cultural differences. They all also must be willing to make intellectual decisions about the society. What good is it if they do just as they are told? If they were to sit every time they were told to they would be useless to the society. A ruler could very well take advantage of people like that and turn their Heaven of a Utopia into a Hell of Dictatorship. This is the most important ingredient in the creation of a Utopia and the hardest to obtain.

Utopian ideals are often criticized because people think that in order to have a perfect society you need a perfect human being, and such a human being does not exist. However, since human beings are not perfect, the government makes laws and punishes those who break the laws. Laws and morals protect us from the evil side of our own souls. People often dwell on the dark part of human nature and neglect to see that the average human has more good in his soul than evil. The ideal of a Utopia is just a belief and a belief cannot be imperfect.

If all of these ingredients where stirred in a pot you would create your own Utopia. Perhaps why this subject fascinates us so much and myself as well, is because we are surrounded by war everyday. I personally have lived through two wars. I see people dying and all because of what? Because some people want a chunk of land or because some want the other’s resources. At the end of the day we are all human. Once we realize this we will be able to make our whole planet a Utopia. Sadly I think it will be a while before this will happen due to the clash of cultural differences throughout the world on every single continent. We all dream of a Utopia, a perfect place where we can all coexist in piece. If we dream it why can we not achieve it?
