After the radio, television came next. Not quite like wireless broadcasting that the radio uses: amplitude modulation and frequency modulation, the television has certainly dominated the world for quite some time since its inception. It is especially interesting to note that Sarnoff appeared in both Farnsworth’s and Armstrong’s lives and had nearly the same roles as copyright breach and patent thief. But unlike Armstrong’s life, Farnsworth managed to hang onto his final moments and recover from a serious depression, a similar one that Armstrong committed suicide under. Regardless, one of the crucial differences between Farnsworth and Armstrong was that the former had the intellectual competitive advantage – remember that Armstrong suffered from illness as a child, and neuroscience studies have revealed that a serious illness during the development years can have lasting effects into adulthood, which is exactly what Armstrong was suspect to. It is also interesting to note how Farnsworth, like many other successful innovators (not thieves!) did not graduate from an Ivy League university, or a perceived prestigious institution: Brigham Young University isn’t known for its engineering, but for its literature and medicine. After all, isn’t that why we have the Brigham Young Medical Center?
