24 Hour News Cycle Killed Real News
The 24 hour news cycle has killed the reporting of real news and instead fills the airwaves with fluff and garbage.

I am sick of CNN, MSNBC, Fox, ABC, CBS and NBC. I want news and real to goodness, gut wrenching, dig for the facts reporting. I’m tired of fluff, fillers and redundancy of stories that have long outlived their newsworthy cycle. I want to scream, “Knock it off!”
Graveyards are full of journalists and, “in your face” news reporters who have now been replaced by news readers. Then there are the pundits who spew their own views of the political world. We all know who they are. These opinionated people suck up the airwaves with an eruption of vitriol that covers our nation in divisiveness. Mega corporations own the news media and it is clearly reflected in the lack of depth regarding most events. The media is now all about the “bottom line.” How many viewers, how many sponsors, how much of a dividend to the shareholders? Actually, what I’m writing here is a news story, in and of itself. It’s a story of how the media is failing us and how it appears to be getting worse.

People have been elevated to stardom, when in fact, they possess absolutely no star qualities. We’ve been inundated with reports of Joe the plumber, Lindsey Lohen, Marley Cyrus, Christine O’Donnell, Tiger Woods’ extramarital affairs, Charlie Sheen’s drunken antics and of course, Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin and even more Sarah Palin. Make it stop!
Let’s take Sarah Palin for instance. Sarah quit as governor of Alaska, she lost in the presidential election as the vice presidential candidate and she has a reality TV show, period and end of discussion, right? Oh no, we have to be bombarded with everything she says on an almost daily basis. If Mrs. Palin said she stubbed her toe on a caribou hoof, rest assured, every single media outlet would report it. Why? Who cares?
Christine O’Donnell is another example of laziness with the networks. She too lost the election in November and yet, she is continually being covered on discussion panels and TV shows. Why is the coach of the NY Jets foot fetish worthy of prime time news coverage? The man loves his wife and apparently, that includes her toes. So what? I could care less.
There are real faces behind the war, natural disasters, philanthropy, education, politicians who were actually elected to office, finance, banking, health care, foreclosures, religious leaders, etc. and with each of these faces are news stories. A journalist or reporter with any gumption might actually find their viewers, listeners or readers drawn into a detailed, complex piece of information which exhibits some curiosity on their part and a desire to delve as far as possible into a real news story.

Totally agree with you, there is little real news or anything that is really newsworthy. I am begining to think the same happens on Triond with the same articles being rehashed almost daily in both cases its just laziness.

Great article and I agree with you totally. I’m so tired of hearing the same story over and over again for days. I’m tired of Sarah Palin, Lindsay Lohan, Tiger Woods and these dumb assed so called political experts that don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground. Their only mission in life is to cause unrest in our country. No more real reporters like Huntley & Brinkley and Walter Cronkite. They weren’t puppets like we have today, they were real news reporters.

I agree with your opinion. Maybe the reason why these people are covered in the media is that they get more views from these people, if not the media will not take interest on them. It’s a business thing i think.

Great article!! I’ve always stated that the so called news of today is more about spin than substance. The days of Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite, are no longer evident. It’s a sad commentary, but it’s true.

Thank you thank you thank you. I was beginning to think I was the only one. I want news, dammit. I want international news, not just when Americans are involved. I want political occurrences, not sound bites, not polls, not he said/she said/ who slept with whom, but what happened. And please, less weather. The forecast is generally wrong, and for the current weather… I own a window and a door.
Thank you so much for this article. Sorry about the venting.

My thoughts exactly. I watch the news on public television. Public television still tries to do in-depth reporting and to present what it finds in an unbiased way. The interviews are done in a professional manner, no shouting or finger pointing. This article is right on!

You make some good points. There is a lot of garbage to be sure. I tend to avoid watching the news as is for the reasons that it does tend to impressive me.

Good points raised about the poor quality of news reporting. TV in general is of a poor standard in my opinion, too many reality shows making nobodies famous and into a celebrity status for no apparent reason than to give another story of no interest.
Happy Christmas, look forward to reading many more of your articles.

This is an excellent article highlighting the utter shallowness of the News programmes we now receive. In Britain we have the BBC news, which is now no more than a spokesman, for the labour party! No balanced tell it as it is coverage. It is really is very sad, do they really think the public are so thick?

Then the time came when every News is sensationalized and networks prefer to rate higher than it’s competing network rather than deliver a comprehensive and hard hitting facts..
It’s been happening in my country for decades now…
and networks are greedy for profits rather than public service..
I feel for you my friend
Excellent share:)

I couldn’t agree more. We seem to be a world of cheap reality TV and a penchant for knowing what an A list star had for breakfast yesterday. Gimme a break. Let’s get some journalists who might actually tell us the truth (heaven forbid) for a change.
