After U.S. Election

Thoughts after the election of Obama.

With the election of a black American as a president there were two comments that appeared after the CBC news on the topic, which reflected two opposing opinions. One said that all the fine words issued through Obama’s oration are not enough to address the tremendous task of putting the country on track. Like no kidding! And did Bush and his Republican supports really care about how they ran the country in the worst deficit ever so that someone could be responsible the day they walk into the oval office? I would think that you would have to give a person a chance especially with the shoddy legacy his warlord predecessors have left.

The other opinion reflects more of my attitude and that is this election represents a greater change that Bush supporters could have ever imagined. It shows that the country is largely supportive of equal opportunity. Jesse Jackson was in tears and not for nothing offer the implications of such a triumph coming from the election of a man who origins were partly from Kenya where he is currently being honored.

Will America ignore congratulations from countries like Turkey and Iran who have lauded the current victory? Perhaps not but recently and especially through the ignorance demonstrated by a vice presidential candidate, there is probably no interest on where these countries are let alone what their politicians think. Unless the US becomes more aware of those external nations or populations from which its own county was formed it will continue having a bleak economic future no matter who their leader is. Continued open-ended warfare will only exasperate the economic dilemma.

And I would hope that Obama is left to work in peace on correcting certain failures because I am aware of certain groups who would rather see his untimely end. May he have that chance to bring dignity back to a country that constitutionally is supposed to be the land of the liberty and equality for all, instead of liberty and equality for certain privileged groups that it has become.
