Al Gore
A look into the year 2000 United States Election between Gore and Bush, as well as some of the achievements of Al Gore.
Al Gore
Al Gore, the democratic candidate for president running against now President Bush during the 2000 election. He actually beat President Bush in the popular vote by a narrow margin with a total of about 51 million votes (48.4 Percent) while President Bush had about 50.5 million votes (47.9 Percent). Gore actually only lost by a total of 5 electoral votes, President Bush receiving 271 while Gore was Received 266. The election took months to declare a winner and a president was finally declared by the Supreme Court.
Al gore was elected to the House of Representatives for four terms before leaving to make a successful bid for the Senate. He represented the state of Tennessee as a senator before being chosen as Bill Clintons’ Running mate in 1992. He served two terms before his unsuccessful bid for the presidency in 2000.
Since his campaign Gore has done a lot to raise awareness about global warming. Al Gore won the Nobel peace prize for his work on the environment. He also was the writer of the book and award winning documentary the Inconvenient Truth. That documentary won an Academy Award in 2007. Other works written by him on the topic of the environment include: Earth in the Balance: Healing the Global Environment as well as Our Stolen Future: Are We Threatening our Fertility, Intelligence, and Survival? Al Gore since the 2000 election has been very quiet politically, besides endorsing both John Kerry and Barack Obama. He has also made a handful of speeches about a variety of topics, from the war in Iraq to other current political issues.
