Anti-Semitic Incitement in Egypt After Egypt’s Peace Treaty with Israel
About the Egyptian government’s poor job in fighting anti-Semitism, even after signing a peace treaty with Israel. They even have war games against Israel when training their soldiers.
Unfortunately now for more than 10 years most of the big [Egyptian] exercises are simulating war against Israel.
He also stated that the first time was in 1996 when they imitated a war against “a little country that is bordering Egypt on the northeast” and even said that it’s clear who the Egyptians referred to when just looking at a map. Though Israel does occasionally express concern about these exercises, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, in a phone call to Hosni Mubarak, apologized for comments made by Steinitz, not even making a big deal about these military exercises.
The peace treaty between Israel and Egypt is a cold peace treaty.
When it comes to the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt does arrest its members, but only does very little to combat the ideology of that organization. And ten families from Sderot, the town that has the most rocket attacks from Gaza, sued Egypt. Johnathan, the father of one of the families who sues Egypt, said,”We know Gaza gets its weapons through Egypt. Israel’s requests that they put a stop to it are unanswered, so maybe it’s time they pay for it. We’ve already lost our daughter and our son is severely traumatized,” he said when asked of the suit’s monetary value. “We can only hope the money will help to rehabilitate the families who were hurt the most… the court has to grant the suit. People have to understand the situation here is impossible.” Nitzana Darshan-Layton, who represents the families, said, “The residents of Sderot and the Gaza vicinity communities are the only ones seriously affected and every one must understand that Mubarak is as responsible for the situation as (Hamas chief) Ismail Haniyeh.”
To be fair, Egypt is not directly funding Hamas and other terrorist groups in Gaza, which launches rocket attacks in israel, though they do sneak into Egypt and smuggle weapons used to fire at Israel. Layton also said:
These logistics would not be possible without Egypt’s assistance. Egypt is known for fiercely fighting anything (its government) finds unacceptable…. these weapons are not made in Gaza and they clearly go through Egypt before getting there.
This article exposed the fact that anti-Semitism is still widespread in Egypt even after it signed its peace treaty with Israel, with the Egyptian government encouraging it, as well as having military exercises against Israel, all of which violate the basic principles of the Camp David Accords. Even though at least many Egyptians [92% according to one poll] see Israel as an enemy thanks to government sponsored propaganda and from the propaganda of opposition groups like the Muslim Brotherhood. Yet Egypt is considered as one of the three “moderate” nations, even receiving the second biggest aid to Israel thanks to the peace treaty that Egypt signed with Israel.
