Bill Salmon Centre Hatfield Hertfordshire
Letter i’m sending to the WHT.
Dean Editor,
The Conservatives said in their election material that:
‘The users of the Bill Salmon Centre have been relocated in readiness for
its demolition in April, which is the first stage of the redevelopment of the town centre.’
Really? Well, the Bill Salmon Centre is still standing and it’s mid-July!
John Dean’s recent letter in the WHT states: ‘We have now reached a point
where, despite the continuing adverse markets, we will be commencing phase one
of redevelopment. The Bill Salmon Centre will be demolished and phase
one is due to commence during the current year’.
And I’ve now just been advised by a long standing town centre shopkeeper,
that the Bill Salmon Centre is only going to be refurbished!
This same shopkeeper also correctly revealed that St.Modwen’s had scrapped
their original Town Centre plans back in 2008, many weeks before the
Borough Council sneakily announced it on local election day.
Yet again, I ask John Dean, through your paper, what is going on with your
promise to regenerate our Town Centre?
And for perspective, let us be reminded that the Bill Salmon Centre is only
a very tiny part of the overall redevelopment!
If the Town Centre is not going to happen, for whatever reason, then please
can he please tell us the truth. Maybe we can then all work together and get
the place spruced up so as to attract some decent shops back into Hatfield.
Dean Archer
