Confusion Reigns in Nigeria

In the face of his oath of office and promise to use the Ekiti state election re-run to convince Nigerians of his seriousness with the new electoral reforms, Nigeria’s President is far from redeeming his promise.

Confusion reigns supreme following the inconclusive outcome of the Ekiti state re-run elections between the People Democratic Party’s flag-bearer and former governor of the state Engineer Segun Oni and the Action Congress candidate Mister Kayode Fayemi.

While the members of PDP are claiming victory for their man and flag-bearer, the Action Congress members are singing their electoral victory.

Meanwhile, the rerun could not hold in two out of the sixty-four wards namely; Oye and Egbeme. Also, from the pool of results made available, the Action Congress is said to have won a landslide.

Youths said to be in support of the AC’s candidate Fayemi have set bonfires on the major road into the state capital vowing to make the state ungovernable if their man and the people’s choice is not announced the rerun winner. But for the intervention of the police, the anger of the youths would have translated to violence and mayhem which the state is known for ever since the 2007 elections were fought and won.

It would be pertinent at this juncture to point out that the Appeal Court voided government of Mister Segun Oni was brought to office through the Do-or-Die brand of politics brought to bear on PDP and the generality of Nigerians by the former president General Olusegun Obasanjo.

From the look of things, none is sure of the real outcome of the rerun election in Ekiti state as it has become a case of confusion reigning supreme in the minds of every Nigerian as they await the president’s reaction to the entire fiasco.
