From Subsidy to Entitlement

Redefining subsidy to entitlement when you don’t agree with where the funds are going.

Nick Anderson of the Washington Post, September 18, 2009 reported theold, worn-out, dated, broken record  played by republican Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) calling the bill to end subsidizing the banks as “runaway entitlement.” Did he ever call a bank or corporate subsidiy “runaway entitlements?”

The truth is that the bill diverts funding from their “free-spending grab back of runaway entitlements.” What is a ‘free-spending” grab bag? Through the two terms of George W. Bush, the Republicans have shown no aversion to uncontrolled spending. It is simply a matter of where to spend: that is their problem. Entitlement becomes subsidies and supports.

When this new “entitlement” is entrenched in society; they realize that their hill  climb will be much steeper since those who support them with  their racist attacks disguised as outrage for health care will take advantage of this new “entitlement” as they lose their jobs and health coverage. Health Care transcends idiot-ology.

It is logical, foolish and hypocritical rhetoric and again, anything that raises quality of life becomes an “entitlement.” When ill-educated become better educated and empowered, the pool of cheap labor for corporations is cut and that increases a population better able to discern between deceptions and facts thrown at them.

Better-educated people are more prepared to challenge the manipulators and their influences on unfounded fears they created. That portion of the Stimulus Bill that allocates to support and revamp public schools must be deep under their skin. Why do we need healthier and better educated city kids?

The unreasonable and unfounded fear the republicans have is the same unreasoning fear and hatred they had of Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. They slander the proposal and the proposers as socialist as socialism and it will break the country.

They will use every trick and tactic to forestall it. Unfortunately for them, these “entitlements” uplifts our quality of care, supports of as human beings and not as serfs for the corporations. Ironically, they are as ready to take advantage of them as the “socialists.”

As I. F. Stone wrote in “Polemics and Prophesies 1967-1970” quoting President Truman, “The Wall Street reactionaries are not satisfied with being rich…they are gluttons of privilege…cold men…cunning men..They want a return of the Wall Street economic dictatorship.” Obviously this applies to politicians as well, readily taking their contributions and perks and eventually be hired by those same corporations.
