Glenn Beck: Bad for Civil Discourse; Bad for America

Argument that says popular Fox News host Glenn Beck is hurting civil discourse with his hateful rhetoric.

Glenn Beck: Bad for Civil Discourse; Bad for America

I feel that it is only fair to start out with full disclosure; I am an Obama supporter who disagrees with the overwhelming majority of Beck’s views. But I do not write this to stifle dissent; I write this to stifle lies. Beck, whether it is through his radio show, his television show, or his sham 9/12 project, has constantly used propaganda to spread his fringe right wing ideology. If William F. Buckley, arguably the most elegant conservative of the 20th century, were alive today to see the direction that Beck has taken the conservative movement, he would cringe at the level of hatred, and would do anything in his power to get hate and vitriol substituted with honest and healthy debate.

Lie #1: Glenn Beck is bipartisan

Beck loves to try and convince his viewers that this so called path to socialism was started by President Bush, and Obama is just continuing his philosophy. He always tells his viewers that he was enraged when the $700 billion bailouts happened last September. That’s true, because the bailouts weren’t more. While he does admit that this goes against his core principles, Beck called for a bailout at least three times as big on his show at CNN Headline News. Now his selective memory has him forgetting he thought this was the way to go. Here’s the video proof. http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200909210037

Becks not past the partisan divide in the media, he drinks the Republican kool-aid. That’s probably why he fits in so well at Fox News…

Lie #2: Van Jones is a radical communist.

Once again, Beck distorts the truth; this time about Van Jones. The truth is, in his youth Jones was a radical. He was at one point a communist, but he grew up. He now realizes the flaws in the system, and is now a proponent of using business based solutions to help fight global warming. Eva Patterson’s blog in the Huffington Post, Glenn Beck’s Attack on Van Jones: Fantasies and Falsehoods is proof Glenn made it up. These smears forced Jones to resign as Obama’s green jobs czar. Glenn Beck used propaganda to make an honest, hard working man unemployed. Now, if you don’t want someone who used to be a communist, but isn’t anymore, in the White House, that’s legitimate. But the way Beck twisted the facts around is dishonest and flat out propaganda.

Obviously you didn’t read Obama’s books which make several statements that indicate his genuine dislike for the white American middle class. He even showed no remorse for his own mother’s neglect by her loser husband. Van Jones made many brutally radical statements calling for the kind of socialistic and radical change that enemies of the US would wholeheartedly support. You, like so many other Democrats, want power for your party at what ever cost your country and countrymen have to suffer. Ron Paul is the only politician worth his salt and at least Glen Beck didn’t sit on the Obambot wagon spewing ignorant support for a secretive and dangerously anti Constitution president.

First off, liking Obama and being a democrat are two different things. Political parties are companies that try to get people elected. I would still think Obama is a good president, doesn’t matter if it’s a d or an r next to his name. And to say the Democrats want power for their party is obvious, all political parties do. And my point of Van Jones was that Beck lied about him, I’m not going to defend the choice of Jones as green jobs czar or any undefensible comment he’s made. And to call someone anti constitution when they have had this vitriolic of dissent against them, within the first year of their term no less, is absurd. If he was anti constitution, he’d have a fire hose sprayed on the 9/12 protesters in 2 minutes. And I’m not mad at Beck for being against Obama, I mad at him for pulling stuff out of his ass.
