Guilty Before Proven Innocent

Guilty before proven innocent. I just want to find a good price!

I have noticed that there always seems to be good news that then follows bad news. A guy wins the lottery. A few weeks later he is charged with income tax evasion. A woman says she was raped. The guy who raped her is caught, sent to prison then she is charged later with drunk driving. A few years back I wrote a letter to the editor of the Staten Island Advance supporting a young girl who went joy riding with her parents car without a license and got into a major accident. The reason for my letter of support was that I felt the road was too blame, not her. She gets off and then a few months later went joy riding again, gets into an accident,  that kills her front seat passenger! You would think she would have learned the first time not to drive! I could go on and on. Like the garbage men who got pissed and ran over some garbage cans. They were too heavy to lift and they had to reach into them and throw each bag into the truck. Caught on surveillance tape! They must have been shaking in fear.

It has happened to me as well. There is always someone, a customer or retail staff that decides to watch me suspiciouslyas I look for a good price on computer paper, etc. I hear them talking too. “Oh he may steal something!” All because I pick up and item, then see one for a better price, and put it down. I mean when did looking at confusing store prices and trying to figure out what’s a better deal become a bad thing?

I came to your store to buy something. I don’t go half way across this Island for fun! I compare prices to see what is good to buy. If I take a long time, I am sorry. As George Carlin would say, “I do a real moronic thing. I think. I like to come to my own conclusions. I just don’t roll over on command!” So, I am not out to steal from you, Mr. Retailer. I just like to take my time and think.

With the holidays I guess people get suspicious. A lot of thieving goes around. But that is no excuse to be suspicious of someone when they are comparing prices that you have conveniently made confusing. This actually sounds like a catch-22 if I ever heard of one. Anyway….
