House Refuses to Raise Debt Ceiling
The House holds the line….this time. Let’s encourage them to continue to do so.
Tonight the Unites States House of Representatives refused to capitulate to Obama’s demand to raise the debt ceiling. In this story we see that every republican and almost half the democrats voted against raising the debt ceiling. The article says that tonight’s vote is “a powerful repudiation of the President’s clear desire to have unlimited debt and spending without conditions.” Republicans have said repeatedly that they will not agree to raise the debt ceiling without trillions of dollars in spending cuts. I will admit that I have been expecting the republicans to cave on this demand but so far they have held firm.
It is time for our lawmakers to learn to live within its means. We can’t continue trying to spend our way out of this recession. It doesn’t work. Keynesian economic theory fails every time it is tried. The dirty little secret with it is that even the Keynesian model relies on trickle down, or supply side, economics to work. It is time for our government to get spending under control and get us back on the path to prosperity. This won’t work if we raise the debt ceiling without forcing spending changes.
If you haven’t already done so I want to suggest that you contact your representatives and tell them to keep up the fight and continue to do what is right for our country. Remind them that if they cave on this we will fire them at their next re-election bid.
