In Kenya, Women Have Agreed Unanimously to Deny Their Men Sex Until There is Good Governance in the Country

In a country where men are the perpetrators of corruption and poor governance, using the sex weapon becomes the last resort. This is what the Kenyan women chose to do in May, 2009 to call their men to order and ensure development in the country.

It has always been a given that sex rules the world and every human being has a soft spot for sexual matters. This deep understanding of the power of sex has gotten a thrilling analysis from some Kenyan women activists who are determined to teach their men how to responsibly use the political power given to them by ordinary  Kenyans. Theirs is the strong believe that political leaders in present day Kenya are more engrossed in political bickering and corruption than delivering tangible services to the people who voted them into  power in the first place.

The collective decision by Kenyan women to deny their men sex came after the realization that sex evokes powerful emotions and it could be used used as  ransom on men to do better to improve mother Kenya. The period between  30th april and 8th May 2009, went on record as one in which Kenyan men were enmass, subjected to some unconditional sexual starvation. No bedroom was spared, going by what the Kenyan women said and the reaction of the men thereafter. Indeed, the Wife of the Kenyan Prime Minister, Mrs. Raila Odinga is said to have accepted to starve her husbands as well for 7 days.

The biggest concerns of the women have always been that the Kenyan men in positions of power have often abused their offices and sown seeds of  intrigue and hatred other than causing development for their people. Currently in the Kenyan government of national unity, there is no consensus on a number of very sensitive issues that could have moved Kenya forward. No policy gets unanimously passed as parliamentarians are divided on party lines which  have affected progress on policy and law making  in the country. The women activists think, starving these men sexually would  awaken them to the fact that the political power they wield was not insurmountable.

It is not clear to me how successful these women were in their ventures to deny men sex for 7 days. But whatever happened,  the principle resorted to by these Kenyan Women was a good one. Men should every where in Africa know that they cannot always make their cakes and have them. Times are changing and the women are catching up with the men using  whatever means at their disposal to arrive at the desired end for humanity. May this spirit spread like bush fire to all corners of the world as some gender form of checks and balances on the powers of men who predominantly run the world with complete disregard to  other stake holders like, women, children, the environment and the cosmos! Bravo Kenyan Women, keep tightening the nuts on inept men where it hurts most!

Thanks for sharing this, Gaby. The Kenyan sexual starvation week wasn’t reported here in the UK press.
