Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital

Why Jerusalem should be the capital of Israel and why the international community should recognize it as such.

We are engaged in defensive fighting on the Egyptian sector, and we shall not engage ourselves in any action against Jordan, unless Jordan attacks us. Should Jordan attack Israel, we shall go against her with all our might.

Egypt blocked the Straits of Tiran to Israeli shipping while Syria launched rockets at northern Israel. On June 6, 1967, one day after Israel launched a justified preemptive strike on Egypt’s forces, Jordan attacked Tel Aviv and western Jerusalem. Nasser lied to King Hussein that he was winning the war. Jordan wanted “credit” in the Arab world for taking part in the genocidal machine to eliminate Israel.

In the Six day war, another war where Israel was defending herself, she captured east Jerusalem, the West Bank, the Golan Heights and Gaza.

Israel never won any territory [let alone Jerusalem] in a war of aggression.

Jews were allowed to return to Jerusalem. Freedom of religion was established in Jerusalem. Then, Christians were no longer persecuted.

The international community has counted east Jerusalem as part of the so-called “occupied” territories and expected Israel to leave it. East Jerusalem is and should be the eastern half of Israel’s capital.

Jerusalem is Israel’s capital. It was only ever the capital when Israel had it. When King David captured Jerusalem, he made it the capital and built his palace there. Jerusalem is the center of Jewish history, only to be won back by modern day Israel in defensive wars.

King Solomon built the famous Jewish temple in Jerusalem [that fact that a Jewish temple existed is denied by the Muslim forces who seek Israel's destruction like the Mufti of Jerusalem and also by the terrorist crook Yasser Arafat, who was a hero to the political left].

Jerusalem is said to be the holy city of three religions Judaism, Christianity and Islam. But Jerusalem plays a small part in Christian and Muslim history, while it is the center of Jewish history.  The temple built by Solomon was destroyed by the Babylonians and then rebuilt centuries later. It was then destroyed by the Romans.

During the Diaspora, Jews said,”Next year in Jerusalem”. What’s commonly forgotten is that the western wall is located in “occupied” east Jerusalem. It’s unfair and outrageous that any Jew who settles in east Jerusalem [the eastern half of the city that's the center of Jewish history] is considered as a “illegal settler”. All of Jerusalem was the Old City [part of "occupied" east Jerusalem] until the 19th century when the city expanded.

UN resolution 242 does not even call for Israel to give up east Jerusalem. The basic spirit of that resolution is that the disputed territories would be administered by Israel until their fate are decided by a peace partner. No international peace plan or any agreement that Israel signed calls for giving up east Jerusalem [though giving up the Arab areas of the eastern half of that city was part of the offer then-Prime Minister Ehud Barak made to Yasser Arafat and dividing Jerusalem was being considered during the Anapolis "peace" talks]. Right now, people like America’s radical President Barack Obama have a distorted view on Israeli settlements. People like Obama believe that any Jew settling in the eastern half of Jerusalem, the historic capital of Israel, is an illegal settler and makes a big fuss over any construction in the settlements.

So Israeli annexation of east Jerusalem does not violate international law. International law allows countries to annex territory it won from a war of self-defense. East Jerusalem is part of Israel’s historic capital. So Jerusalem should stay as Israel’s undivided capital.
