Barack Obama

Biographical Information: Obama went to college at Occidental College, and then in 1983 he received a B.A. from Columbia University. He also studied law at Harvard University.
Political Party: Democratic
Office Held: President of the United States of America
Committees: N/A

Political Views: Energy-Obama has a plan to embrace alternative and renewable energy. He wants to make investments in the future of more renewable energy sources like solar, wind, biofuels, and geothermal power. I agree with him about energy because it is a big deal now but in the future it will be an even bigger deal. It will affect me when I am older and also my kids and grandkids as the need for renewable energy will be greater. According to www.ontheissues.org President Obama sponsored legislations that improve energy efficiency and he also said that he wants to reduce the consumption of energy and be more efficient. Gun Control-Barack supports banning the sale and transfer of all forms of semi-automatic firearms. He also supports a national law outlawing the practice of allowing citizens to carry concealed firearms. I agree with him about gun control because semi-automatic weapons are powerful and do not need to be put into the wrong hands. According to www.ontheissues.org Obama said he wanted to ban semi-automatic weapons and endorsed Illinois handgun ban. Nuclear Weapons-Obama has spoken out against nuclear proliferation. He wants to crack down on it by strengthening the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and also vowed to stop the development of new American nuclear weapons in order to pursue his goal of a world without nuclear weapons. I agree with President Obama because nuclear weapons can kill many people and no nuclear weapons in this world would stop a lot of death and destruction. According to www.ontheissues.org Barack said his goal is a world without nuclear weapons to seek peace and he also wants to rebuild a nuclear proliferation strategy.
Joe Biden

Political Party: Democratic
Office Held: Vice-President of the United States of America
Committees: N/A

Political Views: Abortion-Joe believes that the Roe v. Wade decision should remain intact. He favored a ban on partial birth abortion. He has voted against parental notification and a ban on abortions on military bases. He has also said that the government should not be involved with an issue like this. I disagree with him on some of the things he believes. I do believe that the government should be involved in this, but I agree with him about the ban on partial birth abortion. According to www.ontheissues.org Biden said that the Constitution does offer an inherent right to privacy and also that he supports partial birth abortion ban, but not undoing Roe v. Wade. Drugs-Biden has increased penalties against those caught selling drugs within 1000 feet of schools. He wants to divert drug offenders out of the prison system. I agree with him about making it worse if you get caught selling drugs by schools because than less people will sell drugs to students and kids. According to www.ontheissues.org Joe voted yes on spending international development funds on drug control and increased penalties for dealing drugs by schools. Education-Joe wants sexual education to be taught in our schools. He said that it is a school’s Constitutional right to have voluntary prayer in school and he is against school vouchers. I agree with him about everything. I liked how he affirmed that it was a school’s right to pray and also that they should teach sex education so that kids will know more about abstinence. According to www.ontheissues.org Joe Biden voted no on school vouchers in 1997 and supported sexual education being taught in schools.
