Non-violence Resistance: Does It Apply in Today Politics
Non violence, martin luther king jnr, spirituality, injustice,
The “Awakening of the Islamic World” has transformed politics today. Many African leaders claim to be revolutionary leaders. The status they have given themselves has led them to rule with ignorance. They no longer want to step down and pave way for new blood. In many cases, the leaders have stayed in power for more than 25 years.
People all over the world are calling for the resignation of such leaders who have developed an authoritarian way of governing. These leaders in many cases have ignored the will of the people and have concentrated more on enriching themselves at the expense of the poor. They have denied the existence of any opposition entity. In any case, where an opposition exists, dictators use all the necessary power to oust and silence it.
I strongly recommend the reader of this piece of work to read it to the end and avoid some misconceptions. Everyone is entitled to his own beliefs and I believe that violence is not always the way out although non-violent resistance has its own weaknesses.
However, it is not always the case that a person who has ruled for many years is a dictator. The existence of another force will always cause pandemonium and quagmire. The mind of the people is easily transformed to believe in what they have recently heard. The power of the mind has transformed this world. People are seeking power and unfortunately, innocent people are driven to the slaughter without any knowledge. Some things need us to think before we act! It is not because I support people to stay in power for many years but we have to understand first why some people want to be in that position for so long.
Elections are rigged and people vote already knowing the results. Therefore, people have called for change and existence of transparency and the rule of law. Propaganda has become the way of life. People are living in fear. The continued existence of threats and absence of freedom of expression has brought about a new wave in politics of removing the leaders violently. Does Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi `s principles of non -violent resistance a waste of time?
This article will analyze the principles of non-violent resistance outlined by Martin Luther King Jr. and their applicability to today politics. In an effort to bring change, many people are resorting to violent means as a way of making their wishes come true. In their efforts, innocent people are killed. However, people have sworn and others are prepared to give their lives as sacrifice for freedom. The deception behind this is that many people lose their lives. Their actions are justified and more and more people are willing to give their life in order to become heroes of the revolution. Infrastructure is destroyed and development efforts are hampered. This age was supposed to be a stage where developing counties were supposed to be moving up, but the opposite is true. The least developing countries are always in conflict, leaders spilling blood fighting for their own cause of survival and fulfilling their endless, egotistical desires of insatiability.
