Obama and Africa
Obama; what can he do for Africa? The million dollar question.
He is black and he is something of a world president for he rule the world’s strongest nation. But what’s the connection with Africa well, the world famous musician “Bob Marley” do say, if you are black, then you are from Africa and if you do find yourself elsewhere, probably its because of emigration of some sort which could be slave trade.
Although regardless of the fact that we do know that he is partly Africa, it is also obvious that whatsoever link he had with Africa has long been broken (that’s my view and I can prove it). In fact, I believe he is only black outside and completely white inside-he is white prior to his election, so much vigour was anchored into it from Africa-I mean from the black race. I did some research then and what I got was that, most Africans believe that if he do get to the white house, then visa will be easier to get (remember that most Africans living in Africa wants to get out of Africa at all cost!). that makes me wonder if the US president is the US for indeed such ideas were unfounded.
Now he is in power and has been able-to a large extent control the home front conflict of credit crunch, mortgage collapse and other economic collapse, also he is going to get Guantanamo-bay closed, then withdraw soldiers from Iraq and whether that is a welcome feat depends on your judgement of it, remember that everybody has got a right to his or her opinions.
I am yet to see him affect Africa, don’t remind me of his activities in Ghana for if you do, I’ll also remind you of the fact that America has a stake in there (except if you forget that oil has been discovered in Ghana!). Fine, he said he wanted to relinquish reliance on oil and seek for alternative. That’s actually not feasible now, I do know of ethanol and other fossil fuels, they just can’t replace oil completely. His tenure might trigger such research, yet it wont live to see the results for such results might take decades to materialize.
Maybe the joy of seeing a black man in power is sufficient glee for Africans and they should just expect little. After all, African’s problems are so complex that even a magician will get confused at where to start from.
The Racial prejudice in South Africa, Militancy in the oil rich Niger Delta region of Nigeria, Pirates in Somalia, Political Unrest in DRC and Sudan, Dictatorship in Zimbabwe, Political unrest in Madagascar-Ravalomanana is out! How about the huge famine and drought in several African countries, the inter-ethnic conflicts in most African states? Well, more Africans are dying than are been given birth to, life expectancy varies from thirty to forty-some years and then in government, it’s usually politics as usual.
I think Obama has more problems home front than elsewhere, the threats from North Korea, Credit Crunch, Economic Meltdown, Mortgage crises, Militancy and some ‘minor’ social issues that makes the religious back George Bush-including but not limited to abortion laws, Gay/Lesbian rights-Bush will always turn them down and the religious community always sigh for relief. But Obama has his own views and I won’t be surprised if “In God we trust” gets removed from our currency. And if the democrats believe nothing should be enforced on anyone in that they claim everyone has a right to choose what he/she wants they maybe Bin Ladin did choose killing the innocents.
