Once Upon a Time

Political observation.

My father, who died at 85 years of age in 2005 was by no means a Sage, a Seer, a Guru or any such all knowing form of prophet.  One of his most vehement exhortations each election cycle was “… throw ‘em all out and get a brand new band of thieves in there…”.  He wasn’t well read nor had he much formal schooling beyond high school.  But his theroy was not all that far out.

Sam Clemens had a similar idea when he expounded that ‘we should obtain all representatives of the people the same way we get juries.  Call the appropriate number of individuals to serve every 3-4 years. when they report for duty, hold their jobs and positions for the intended service period so they have a job to go back to, require them to legislate, lawmake, blather about as the professional officials do now, and at the end of the period served, toss them back to civilian life( the jobs held for them) and call new servants.

This accomplishes several goals and corrects many difficiencies :

Eliminates the necessity for “election cycles”

Eliminates the total waste of time that our current “elections” have become

Requires Legislative representative to live under the very rules they pass( for a change)

Disallows the acquisition of power that has heretofore become Congressional stock-in-trade

Having no need for elections, eliminates the need for large contributions

No contributions eliminates the need for campaign funds and PACs and such.

When personnel  is frequently changed laws become simple and (maybe) understandable

They might even start acting like they serve the people, instead of themselves

                            Think about it!
