Albany apartment complex rescinds flag ban — Cathy Ingalls — Albany Democrat-Herald — October 9, 2009

At the Oaks apartment complex in Albany, Oregon, the nonresident manager, Barb Holcomb started to tell the tenants that the complex had recently initiated a ban on flags and flag decals on all the vehicles in the complex. One of the shocked tenants, Jim Clausen, was told that if he didn’t remove the American flags from both is motorcycle and his Jeep that he would be evicted from his apartment. The nonresident manager and told Jim that there had been many problems before with flags and that they often upset some of the other tenants. At first Jim believed that it was down right unconstitutional to ban American flags from flying and that anyone who is offended by such flags should keep their feelings to themselves or leave the land of the free and the home of the brave. However later on, it was found out by Jann Carson that in Oregon “an owner of private property can apply those types of restriction”. Jim was hard-set that he would not remove the American flags from his vehicles even after being threatened with eviction.

This article pertains to the United States on the grounds of several reasons. First ad foremost, for someone to be told not to show pride in their homeland and country is outrageous and anyone who is offended by the site of an American flag should not live in the United States of America. Also, the law of the United States had given the right to the State of Oregon to give property owners the legal rights to ban flags on their privately owned property.
