Obama Says U.S. ‘Determined’ to Combat Climate Change, Despite Senate Delay — The Associated Press — Fox news — Tuesday, September 22, 2009

President Barack Obama is being pressured by the United Nations to set higher standards for greenhouse gas emissions. The Greenhouse gases are the main contributor to global warming. Barack Obama agreed with the United Nations upon the global warming issue and seemed determined to meet his goal by making factories and power plants cut their emissions by 17% from 2005 to 2020 and then by 83% by 2050. These are the laws that were set by the U.S. House bill passed earlier in the year; these were the first mandatory limits that the United States has set on greenhouse gases. The hard part about this bill says, House Minority Leader John Boehner, is that “Middle-class families and small businesses are struggling, and they shouldn’t be punished with costly legislation that will increase electricity bills, raise gasoline prices, and ship more American jobs overseas to places like China and India.” President Barrack Obama however seems confident that the United States will act and put added pressure on developing nations to do the same. The president doesn’t seem to think that there will be much of a problem with Americans and the added payment that they will have to pay during the recession for their electrical bills. President Barrack Obama being pressured by the United Nations should help to pressure the president into setting higher standards for greenhouse gas emissions.
