Political Pragmatism
The politics of current events and what it could portend.
Obviously, President Obama has climbed aboard the Practicality Express, very quickly!
In less than the past two weeks, we have heard that he has determined not to allow the remaining pictures of detainees both at Abu Grebe and Guantanamo, to be released, he has decided in favor of Military Tribunals for the remaining prisoners (with “tweaks”) and the vote just today not to fund the shutting down of Guantanamo, gives him some cover through the auspices of his party.
The one that gets me the most and went by fairly fast was the President’s embrace of Big Harm/Hospitals in their new found obligation to virtually kill any hope for Universal Health Care.
Before you get the wrong idea, I voted for him. That other monkey got my gag reflex when he embraced the Bush Family during his acceptance speech. (Which brings up a side point I would personally love to smack the whining radio elite of the Conservative bend with.) It has nothing to do with race, it has nothing to do with tree hugging or everything for everyone or getting even with the rich people. Quite simply it came down to an issue of who was tremendously stupid and demonstrated it?
I have one other issue to touch upon prior to getting to what this all could portend. About three days prior to President Bush announcing the Bailouts for the Banks, he was on television making a general statement that he had personally ordered the I.R.S. to allow Banks and various lending institutions to write-off foreclosures of homes. That translates in a practical mind as; “why would any Banker feel the slightest motivation to assist any homeowner facing foreclosure?” They received the tax write-off, the Bailout and the property to resell at some point in the future. I can’t swear that I know that the Banks are receiving the write-off of all the individual homes they have adamantly foreclosed and continue to foreclose; but I have to think I’m on to something. I’ve sent a note asking a couple news agencies to possibly consider looking in to that event that slipped right by everyone in the midst of all the chaos.
I guess the first thing all of this portends is a realization that “The Golden Rule” people in my generation learned in children’s church school was changed from “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” to the reality of “He who has the Gold, rules!” Seems we’ve had a tacit admission from Congress and the Senate that the Banks own them, with not much attention paid to that passing comment. That does however, confirm a few of the above viewpoints.
The real “portent” as I see things coming, is from the disenchantment and disenfranchisement of so many people within our society, the suspcions that we possibly have a date with destiny concerning Iran/Israel sometime at the end of this year or there abouts. This N1H1 “swine flu” which will run concurrently in the Northern Hemisphere at just about the same time and all three culminating in sweeping reactions and possible changes in our attitudes, demeanor and viewpoints.
I’ve seen a demonstrated difference in personalities and hunkered down commiserating groups of people all determined to “grab, growl and get theirs” since all of this has begun. Each group seems to have their own justifications and intentions, if I could read their minds. I really don’t care to.
Folks, I’m deeply afraid that we are headed for a calamity.
