Presidents on Parade: Who is Next and Does It Matter?

Presidents have come and gone. Will the next one make a difference?

The aim of this piece is hopefully to create dialog. To ask the questions that we don’t ask out loud. The type of query you would never hear in a public debate or press conference. These questions will ultimately come from you.

Please be certain I am not putting myself up on a soap box of any sort. I am just really bewildered by the political merry-go-round and the concessions given to Government. In a sense I am just throwing a few thoughts out there to see if I’m alone on this one.

Let us first look at a brief overview of human leadership and Government in general. Without getting into the details of history just go back in your mind as far as you can remember. For example I can remember back to Lyndon B Johnson, the thirty-sixth President of the United States.

Even though I was very young I can recall my parents and relatives discussing subjects like war, employment, disease, health care, crime, national security and the success or failure of how these problems were being addressed. Then Richard Nixon was sworn in.

Then I can recall my parents and relatives discussing subjects like war, employment, disease, health care, crime, national security and the success or failure of how these problems were being addressed. (You are not seeing double, the President changed but the problems didn’t)

Thus so it was and has been the case with Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush Sr, Bill Clinton, and George W Bush Jr. Different presidents, same issues.

Have you watched the recent Presidential campaigns or debates recently. Notice a theme there? Same issues same promises. This is what I am putting out there first and foremost. New people, same old issues.

The fact is despite the name, or the political party, or the promises, every last President has failed to make even a dent into societies serious problems. In fact all of the aforementioned concerns are bigger obstacles now then they ever were.

So does it really matter who the next President is? History says no! Many of these candidates are padding themselves on the back for having a track record of change and success. Just like the candidates and elected ones before them. What exactly has changed? Aside from things getting worse? Not to mention there are more ways of being taken advantage of now.

Say you were looking for a surgeon to do a kidney transplant. You found a list of so called qualified Doctors and you received their assurances and resume’. You begin to see a pattern. Out of thousands of surgeries performed the overall success rate was abysmal. You can recall each one of them saying that you will see the amazing things they have done in the past.

Yes you find evidence of past operations going well for each potential surgeon you are considering. You even find that some of their former patients said glowing things about them. But in the end you find that for every 100 surgeries they performed only 2 people survived. Would that give you reason for hope? Would you jump at the chance to have them open you up?

The cold harsh reality is despite the admirable qualities of Presidents and World Leaders past, present, and future, you are hard pressed to define their legacy as a true success or any kind of success. Yes of course you can point to specific things they may have changed or improved. But did it have any real impact on the issues that people face everyday? Ask yourself, what are the issues and concerns that your parents, family, friends, and yourself are talking about at these present times?

Exactly! Except for the fact that the same problems have gotten much worse, nothing has really changed has it?

Hi, Very interesting, observant article. You are absolutely right. My thought is that presidents have good intentions, remember “read my lips” I don’t think he lied, I think a shot of relity hit him when he looked at the real deal. I also think new presidents should initiate various committees immediately after being sworn in, to tackle each of the major problems you have outlined, and come up with solutions to those problems. Also someone should do a complete audit of the goverment to uncover the waste, overpaying, and outright fraud in the halls of goverment. Sorry to rant. Take care
